Abstract

The natural radioactivity of the ,  and  isotopes for 12 corn crop samples and their soil in Al-Hussainiya area - Karbala, Iraq have been measured by a gamma-ray spectroscopy with scintillation detector  . The  radiation transfer factor TF of , and, the radium equivalent , gamma radiation reprehensive level index , external hazard index  and internal hazard index , Absorbed dose rate and Annual effective dose equivalent have been measured. It was found that the average specific activity value for  isotope in plant samples was 10.644± 1.794. For the soil, the average value was 28.751±1.477. The average value of  specific activity in the plant samples was 9.830±1.664, while for the soil, the average was 24.722± 1.363. In addition, the average specific activity value for was 148.983±6.863, for the soil was 369.937±5.424. The radiation transfer factor ratio distributed as 32% for  isotope and 34% for each of the   and isotopes. The obtained results for the radium equivalent Gamma radiation reprehensive level index , External hazard index , Internal hazard  , Absorbed dose rate and Annual effective dose equivalent in the selected samples were within the acceptable worldwide limit.
