A Review on Cryptographic Algorithms for Securing VANET
Abstract
Purpose: The Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) system is increasing its importance in the present world with the rise in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The world is moving towards driverless transportation systems, so an intelligent way to transfer information is needed. Communication through unknown networks is prone to many security attacks. A secure information exchange would result in fewer traffic jams, decreased accidents, etc. We could make information safe by encrypting it. Many encryption techniques were introduced to facilitate secure communication through VANET. This paper has reviewed different symmetric, asymmetric, and function-based encryption algorithms used in VANET.
Methodology/ Approach: We have tried to develop a conceptual design to solve security problems in communication through VANET technology by analyzing cryptographic literature in the respective area.
Findings/Result: As we know that VANET has been evolved from MANET systems, the threats in the VANETs are similar to MANET's ad-hoc architecture. The VANET system is usually attacked from a limited range as it is not connected to the internet. We can broadly distinguish security attacks in VANETs as inter-vehicular and intra-vehicular. We have tried to avoid these threats by ensuring integrity, confidentiality, authenticity, and accessibility
