My Grandmother’s House is written by Kamala Das (Kamala Surayya); it is nostalgic and deals with Kamala Das’s childhood days spent with her grandmother. She has been taken care of and loved unconditionally, and peacefully she was going, which is utterly contradictory to her present life. Though it’s a short poem, its meaning is deep, intense and emotional. Das reflects the unfulfilled wish to see her grandmother’s house through her autobiographical poem, “My Grandmother’s House”, published in a collection of poems named “Summer in Calcutta” in 1965. She talks about the only selfless, unconditional love she ever received in her entire life, which was from her grandmother. The tone of the poem is nostalgic, emotional, full of memories.
