Global, Geographical and Temporal Displacement Patterns

Abstract

Migration has been taking place across the globe for various reasons. Themovements of people from one place to another renders a cross section of changes in the society and people of various cultural background, languages, religion, come across each other and this leads to new patterns of life adaptation with varied challenges at the fore. The people of different races come along and the society gets divided into various layers according to the power play where the Europeans occupy the upper hand, the Asians in the middle and the Africans ironically occupying the least position in their society and are considered as ‘other’. The paper aims to discuss the reasons, courses and consequences of displacement in M.G.Vassanji’s The Gunny Sack.
